Must-Try Flavors

01
Yüzevler Kebab · Adana kebab
The same family has been one of the most meticulous producers of Adana kebab since 1949. The meat is chopped with armor (not put into the machine), the tail fat ratio is adjusted correctly, the charcoal is oak. The branch on Atatürk Street is classic, the one in Reşatbey is more modern.
₺₺ (350-550 ₺ per person, beginning of 2026)
★ 4.8
02
Kazım Usta (Corporals) · Adana kebab / Liver
When Adana kebab is mentioned, it is one of the first three names that the locals say. It has been on Onbaşılar Street since 1955. The ratio of meat + consistency + bitterness always remains the same, it has never changed. First order the stuffed liver, then the kebab — this is the Adana protocol.
₺₺ (400-600 ₺ per person, early 2026)
★ 4.8
03
Ciğerci Mahmut (Around the Old Market) · Liver / Breakfast
Open at 5 in the morning, it is the liver breakfast address of tradesmen and those who are tired of the night. Charred liver skewers, spring onions, parsley, hot lavash. The logic is this: eat the liver in the morning, eat the kebab in the evening. This is how the day begins, Adana style.

04
Künefeci Çırağan · Kunefe

About Adana

The city with a population of 2.3 million, spread on both banks of the Seyhan River, in the middle of the Çukurova plain. It is Türkiye's 5th largest metropolis, but the atmosphere is not like a metropolis at all - the neighbor chatting on the street even late at night, the man who arranges delicatessen at the table without being acquainted with the person who pays the bill at the kebab shop, the taxi driver saying "you are going there, I am on my way, give me the top-up money". Friendly, loud, direct. Istanbul's distance is not here.

Two things determine the real character of the city: kebab culture and heat. Adana kebab is not just a meal, it is a ritual — everyone has an argument to discuss, from how the meat is cut, to the ratio of tail fat, to which tree the charcoal is made of. The day starts with a liver breakfast in the morning, continues with kebab at lunch, and tavern appetizers in the evening. Turnip juice, roasted peppers, hot lavash — the table is considered faulty without these three.

Climate is a serious determinant. During the summer months (July-August), daytime temperatures routinely exceed 40°C, the asphalt melts, and no one is seen on the street at noon. Life begins after 21:00 in the evening — tea gardens on the banks of Seyhan are full, refreshing walks in the Central Park, hookah smoke on the balconies. March-May and October-November are the real golden time of the trip, with temperatures in the 20-28°C band. Therefore, when planning a flight ticket to Adana, aim for seasonal passes, not summer.

When to Go

Months Weather Density Otel Fiyatı Note
March-April 18-25°C Medium Medium Orange blossom carnival (early April), the most beautiful season
May 23-30°C High High Still bearable, the evenings are cool
June-September 32-42°C Low Low (30% discount) No going out during the day, beach time
October-November 20-28°C High Medium Golden Boll Film Festival (end of September), ideal trip
December-February 8-16°C Low Low Rainy, but snow is rare. Museums are secluded.

In short: End of March - Mid-May and Mid-October - End of November is the ideal window to see Adana at its best. If you have to go in the summer months, shift your entire travel program to after 17:00 and plan for a pool/air conditioner during the day.

How to get there

By plane (most practical): Adana Şakirpaşa Airport (ADA) is only 4 km away from the city center — one of the closest airports to the center of Türkiye. 15+ flights per day from Istanbul, flight duration 1 hour 30 min. Adana flight prices:

  • Istanbul - Adana: 1500-3500 TL (THY, Pegasus, AnadoluJet)
  • Ankara - Adana: 1100-2200 TL (1 hour 15 min)
  • Izmir - Adana: 1400-2800 TL (1 hour 30 min)

If you buy early (2-3 months in advance), Pegasus + AnadoluJet can go down to 800-1200 TL. Return flights on Friday evening and Sunday are the most expensive. To compare Adana flight tickets, look at Skyscanner + Wingie + the airline's own website trio.

By bus: 12-14 hours from Istanbul (1200-1800 TL), 7-8 hours from Ankara (900-1400 TL). Adana Intercity Bus Terminal is 5 km from the city center, 15 minutes by taxi. Kamil Koç, Has, Süha are classic choices. If you want 1+2 seating, specify it when making your reservation.

By train: There is no direct YHT. The transfer via Konya takes 14 hours — long. Mersin-Adana high-speed train line plan was announced in 2027, it is still under construction.

By car: Istanbul-Adana 920 km / 11 hours (TEM highway, paid). Ankara-Adana 490 km / 5.5 hours (O-21). During holiday seasons (holidays, February-March) traffic is heavy, leave in the morning.

Urban Transportation

Adana is a big city but the center is compact — a combination of walking + metro + taxi is enough.

Metro: Single line (M1), the system called Adana Metro is 13.5 km. Bus Station - Blue Boulevard - Hospital line. Single ride is 25 TL, Adana Card is 10 TL + top-up. Central Park, Sabancı Mosque, Atatürk Street stops are useful. Trip interval is 5-8 minutes.

Bus: Adana Municipality buses go everywhere, the card is valid. Single ride is 25 TL. Travel time decreases at night.

Taxi: Abundant, cheap. Opening fee is 50 TL, 15-18 TL per km. Short distance 100-150 TL, airport-center 200 TL. Use BiTaksi app — fixed price instead of haggling on a fake taxi. If the contracted driver says "100 lira", take another taxi directly, they want an average of 30% more.

Bismim (municipal bike): Stations along Central Park and Seyhan coast. 50 TL for 1 hour, 200 TL per day. Enjoying cycling by the river in the cool evening.

Walkability: Atatürk Street - Sabancı Mosque - Taşköprü - Central Park triangle is completely within walking distance (1-2 km). It makes sense to walk outside summer hours.

Budget Estimate

Category Economical Medium Luxury
Adana flight ticket (Istanbul round trip) 1500₺ 2500₺ 4500₺
Hotel (1 night) 800 ₺ (hostel) 1800 ₺ (Best Western, Hilton Garden Inn) 4500 ₺ (HiltonSA, Sheraton)
Food (daily) 350₺ 700₺ 1500₺
Activity + transportation (daily) 200₺ 400₺ 900₺
3 days total (per person) 4150 ₺ 8600 ₺ 20.700 ₺
7 days total (per person) 8950 ₺ 18.600 ₺ 45.700 ₺

When planning a holiday in Adana, the hotel price is half of Istanbul/Antalya — so you can experience luxury comfort in a mid-segment hotel. Allocate a budget for food, because you are coming to Adana for kebab, it would be a mistake to eat at a cheap restaurant.

Travel Guide with Children

Adana is a very suitable city for families with its child-friendly score of 4.2/5. The Central Park on the banks of the Seyhan River keeps children entertained for hours with its large playgrounds, and thanks to the food culture, even the little ones will be happy at the table. Since the city is flat, it is easy to travel with a stroller.

Recommendations by Age Group

  • 0-3 years: The large grass areas and shady playgrounds in Central Park are ideal for this age group. Stroller is no problem — the city center is flat. The courtyard of Sabancı Mosque is large and shady, making it comfortable for toddlers. Larger hotels have baby care rooms.

  • 4-7 years old: Throwing bread to the ducks on the banks of the Seyhan River, the gondola and mini train in Central Park are the favorites of the little ones. Bici bici and ice cream come in handy as a dessert break. Walking on the stone bridge can be turned into a game such as counting the bridge arches.

  • 8-12 years: Roman and Hittite artifacts in the Adana Archaeological Museum attract children who are interested in history. The mysterious silhouette of Yılankale gives a feeling of adventure. Swimming at Karataş Beach is an indispensable part of the summer program.

  • Ages 13+: Young people enjoy exploring the walls and amphitheater in the Ancient City of Anavarza, hiking in Tarsus Waterfall, and hanging out in the tea gardens along Seyhan in the evening.

Top 5 Kid-Friendly Activities

  1. Central Park and Seyhan Riverside — Playgrounds, bicycle path, gondola and mini train. You can have a picnic by the river. Free.

  2. Adana Archaeological Museum — Artifacts from the Hittite, Roman and Byzantine periods arouse children's interest in history. Museum card is valid.

  3. Stonebridge Walk — Walking on the 1900-year-old Roman bridge is a historical adventure for children. You can take a samovar tea break from the tea shops at both ends. Free.

  4. Karataş Beaches — The closest spot to swim as a family in the summer months. Shallow entrance suitable for small children. 50 minutes from the city center.

  5. Tarsus Waterfall — Nature walks and the sound of the waterfall fascinate children. Picnic areas are available, perfect for a half-day family trip.

Practical Information

  • Baby stroller: The city center is flat, Central Park and the Seyhan coast are covered with asphalt roads. Elevator and baby care room are standard in shopping malls (M1, Optimum).

  • Children's menu: It is possible to reduce the portion size in kebab shops, they understand when you say "half portion". Bici bici and ice cream are everywhere. Chain restaurants in Optimum AVM offer children's menus.

  • Children's ticket discounts: Children under the age of 8 are free at museums, half price for those aged 8-18. Children under the age of 6 are free on city buses.

  • Toilet: Free in museums and shopping malls. There are municipal toilets around Central Park and Taşköprü (5-10 ₺).

Warnings

  • In the summer months (June-September) the midday temperature can exceed 40 degrees — do not go out with children between 12:00 and 16:00, there is a high risk of sunstroke.
  • Kebabs and turnips may be spicy for young children — order "non-spicy" and "less spicy."
  • There are no railings everywhere along the Seyhan River — do not leave small children alone by the river.

Local Tips

  1. Turnip preference issue: They will ask whether it is spicy/non-hot, if you are the first to come, start without it. The spicy version is loaded with capsaicin and can shock the stomach.
  2. Kebab protocol: First stuffed liver or yoghurt appetizer, then kebab. Starting with a salad upsets the people of Adana.
  3. Tip: Restaurant 10% standard, round up taxi. Hotel bellboy 50-100 TL.
  4. Taxi negotiation: If he refuses the opening or says "I don't trust the meter", get another taxi. BiTaksi is always safe.
  5. Summer noon hours: Between 12-16 no one is on the street, half of the shops are closed. Set your schedule as early morning + late evening.
  6. Water: Tap water is drinkable but tastes heavy, bottled water is preferred. 1.5 L bottle 15-20 TL.
  7. Mosque visit: Headscarves for women are free at the entrance to Sabancı Mosque. Trousers + sleeved top are expected.
  8. Profit bargain: 20-30% discount is normal. "Can you lower it a little" is enough, there is no need to be aggressive.
  9. Local product gift: Copper coffee pot (Kazancılar), pistachios (nuts seller), dried pepper paste, homemade turnip. 50% cheaper than airport shops.
  10. Evening coolness: After 22 o'clock in the summer evening, the temperature drops by 8-10 ° C, open air places are the center of life. Living in the hotel — Adana's real life is outside.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many days does it take to visit Adana?

The city center can easily be completed in 3 days (Sabancı Mosque, Taşköprü, Museum, Central Park, Atatürk Street). 5 days also includes Anavarza and Tarsus Waterfalls. 7-day plan includes Karataş beach + Yılankale + all kebab shops. Adana 3-day plan is the most balanced option in terms of budget and time.

Where to eat real kebab in Adana?

Classic 3 names: Yüzevler (1949), Kazım Usta (1955), Ciğerci Mahmut (morning liver). All of them are in the center, the price is 350-550 TL per person. Stay away from places with "Adana Kebab Shop" signs inside the shopping mall — it's not real.

Is it possible to go to Adana in summer?

You can go, but the plan will be accordingly. July-August daytime 40°C+, no street life. The whole trip shifts to after 17 pm, hotel with pool during the day + museum + Tarsus Waterfall (cool by the water). Hotel prices are 30-40% cheaper — good for the budget.

When are Adana flight tickets cheap?

Tuesday-Wednesday morning flights are the cheapest. Pick up the week before (2x last minute). It is ideal to buy 2-3 months in advance. The best airline combination for flights to Adana: outbound Pegasus + return AnadoluJet is often more affordable.

How to get from Şakirpaşa Airport to the city center?

The airport is 4 km from the city, one of the closest airports. Taxi 200-250 TL (15 min). Municipal bus costs 25 TL but takes 30-40 minutes + 2 transfers. There is no HAVAŞ service — taxis are economical in Adana.

Which neighborhood is good to stay in?

Seyhan Center (around Atatürk Street): Everything within walking distance, plenty of mid-luxury hotel options (Sheraton, Hilton Garden Inn, Best Western). Çukurova: Quieter, closer to the shopping mall, hotel is cheaper. Yüreğir: Local texture, few hotels but there is an Airbnb option. First trip → Stay in Seyhan.

Is it possible to go to Karataş beaches?

You can go, but don't expect Antalya quality. The beach is wide, the sea is clean, but there are no blue flag tourist facilities — a summer getaway for locals. 47 km from Adana, 700 TL by taxi or 80 TL by minibus. Caretta caretta spawning area (Akyatan) bonus.

How to get to Anavarza?

70 km north of Adana, Kozan district. Difficult by bus (get down to Kozan, then minibus — 2.5 hours in total). Renting a car makes much more sense. You need a full day, the exit is by footpath, bring water + hat + sneakers. Anavarza is one of the least visited major ancient cities of Türkiye — you are on your own, this is its classic feature.

Is Adana safe?

In general, yes, it is calmer than Istanbul. Maintain normal city attention around Kuruköprü bar street and Sakarya in the evening. A woman can walk alone in the evening. Pickpocketing is low, extra attention should be paid during crowded periods (holidays) from surrounding provinces.

How is Adana during Ramadan?

The city slows down somewhat, but half of the kebab shops are open (demand does not decrease). Iftar meal is traditional — group iftar in the courtyard of Sabancı Mosque, free of charge. Hotel prices are 15-20% lower. For sahur, Ciğerci Mahmut's opens between 03-05.
