Frequently Asked Questions

Which countries can be visited visa-free with a Turkish passport?
With a standard (maroon) Turkish passport, you can enter 17 countries visa-free, 4 countries with visa on arrival, and 4 countries with an e-visa. Special (green), service (gray), and diplomatic passports enjoy wider exemptions; you can filter the table on this page according to your passport type.
What do the Turkish passport colors mean?
Maroon (standard) — standard passport issued to citizens. Green (special) — issued to public servants and retirees, providing visa exemption for many countries. Gray (service) — issued to government officials and their families for official duties. Black (diplomatic) — issued to ambassadors, consuls, and high-level government officials, offering the broadest visa exemption.
What is the difference between an e-visa and a visa on arrival?
An e-visa is obtained online from the country's official application site before the trip; confirmation is usually sent by email within 24-72 hours. A visa on arrival is obtained at the airport of the destination country upon arrival, with payment usually made in cash. An e-visa is safer and guaranteed, whereas boarding with a visa on arrival option depends directly on the destination country's permission.
Can green (special) passport holders enter Schengen countries visa-free?
Yes. Special (green) Turkish passport holders can enter the Schengen area visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This includes Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Greece, Portugal, Hungary, Poland, Czechia, Denmark, and other Schengen member states. Ireland and the UK are outside the Schengen area and require a separate visa.
What documents are required for a visa application?
Generally, the following documents are required: a passport valid for at least 6 months, completed application form, biometric photo, bank statements (last 3 months), flight reservation, hotel reservation, travel health insurance (minimum 30,000 EUR coverage), and a payslip or employer letter. Since required documents vary by country and visa type, the official application site of each country should be checked.
What should I do if my visa application is rejected?
Visa rejections usually occur due to missing documents, insufficient financial resources, or unclear purpose of travel. After a rejection decision: (1) read the rejection letter carefully; (2) complete any missing or incorrect documents; (3) appeal if the country allows it (usually within 4-6 weeks); (4) apply again if necessary. Consecutive rejections from the same country can negatively affect future applications.

The visa information on this page is sourced from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye and relevant country consulates and is updated regularly.
